live doing “the whole of the moon” on the roof of 🍅 my absolute favorite song. came to me recently, i missed it for years and then ella played it for me after a conversation that was this exact theme. it’s just one of those once in a million lifetime songs... lots of new ones coming :: but wanted to start the year with this. honored to join the others who have covered this perfect one. as for new bleachers music. it’s so close. i know i been saying that but at this point i’m just a mix or two away. haven’t held anything back because of the world - i don’t believe in that. the only delay is me getting done. sending love

chinatown and 45 are out today. these are the first things i wanted everyone to hear from the new album because they are the songs that are most specially written from the place i have been living in. so much darkness and so much hope. and just as important, they sound to me like the place i am from. video made by during the thick of quarantine with her crew being my mother, father, sister, and bruce and shooting a little as well :) she captured the feeling of this song at its core. thank you carl for literally hanging out of a trunk while my father drove around jersey. ——— these songs to me are leaving your “city life” to return to you at your most complicated and truest. showing your cards to someone by taking them to the core of who you are and then having to see those cards yourself. thats the real complication with letting people in, you have to see yourself through them and it’s never what you imagined for better and worse. that’s what these two songs are and that is where i have been writing from. and to bruce - honor of a lifetime to have you here with me on chinatown. you are the one who showed me that the place i am from has a sound a feeling that is worth taking all over the world. can’t wait to smash this thing live as soon as possible. and to the bleachers world- i feel awake again being back at it with you all. i did not want to wait for a perfect time to release, i wanted to start putting things out as i felt they needed to come. that feeling is all we have and waiting is a crime. not gonna leave you hanging. so here we go. this is the beginning .... chinatown and 45 recorded at , conway and my studio. produced by me and who made the entire album. and as always recording it all. all over these recordings. this next phase is as close to a bleachers show the studio will get. video edited by who made thank you and sorry with me and ! more to come on that too ::: cover photo by / designed by

today ‘gaslighter’ by the chicks is released. it is overwhelming to try and describe the journey of making this album, the ways it changed me forever, the incredible love i have for the 3 of them and the world they have created and allowed me to be a part of. natalie, martie and emily are among the greatest song writers / players / singers to have done the thing - they are a fucking force. i loved every inch of making this album with them. people always talk about blood sweat and tears when it comes to record making but this was BLOOD SWEAT and TEARS in the most literal sense. it has been a complete honor. i love this album. PIC 2: first time we went into the studio. wrote and recording gaslighter in a few hours and started on hope it’s something good. one of those days that seems like a dream now. PIC 3: recording in hawaii with no air conditioning and roosters screaming outside. all of it in the album. listen specially to set me free for this. the hawaii trip brought out the darker songs in the album. nat was going through it the most intense way then and it laid the ground work. the basement of the album. PIC4: laura recorded the ocean. put this as transitions into choruses in the hawaii songs. PIC5: i mean ...... PIC6: live sessions. recorded everything in a few different ways and brought it all together. some songs one take. some songs a million different versions. one day you’ll hear the original march march .... PIC7: a beautiful jacket bought near dollywood. traveling pants vibes with this one for us PIC8: the only picture i can share from when they stone my camera cause the others are porn. .... lastly. favorite moment. watching the chicks sing the national anthem in a living room? every session devolving into pranks and tears after dinner and drinking starts? recording these three voices together that the universe intended to be together? the writing of young man with chicks annie and justin ( and )? prank calling every restaurant with a “politically incorrect dixie chicken” sandwich? love you all. ps. FUTK pps. double fuck you bill oreilly

a list of the only songs i’ve listened to recently. i usually have a very small playlist going when i am working on new music of songs that push on me. new ones as well as the ones that time and time again bring me to a place where i feel i have to move forward. i throw in one thing of my own to hear it within this. this time around it’s entropy because it’s mine but distant. i liked that in the context of these. specifically fairest of seasons has the power to ruin my life and number 1 song in heaven is my life - on that one thank god for its length cause i am ALIVE for everyone second of it. nate harold has also put out something beautiful and i included my favorite from that collection. one day i’ll share more of these small playlist i make for when i am working but for now here is one that i made for my friends —- stevie / sparks / suicide / erasure / nico / weyes blood / alan vega / nate harold / the chicks / bleach & grimes / elo / joni / ROY

folklore :: working with taylor is a full connection to all of the wonder of making music. knowing her and making work with her gives me faith in the ability for people to grow. to actual grow. it has been a one of the most deeply important personal and creative relationships in my life. thank god i met you at that bizarre show in germany all those years ago. i adore you and i adore this album. thank you for listening and believing in what i was doing before i had produced a single record. damn taylor. there is a protective layer on the process with her that lets in zero cynicism. zero. songs are sacred and the way they sound have to hold the writing in the right home forever. finding that with her is magic. running forward on every album is magic. thank you for not letting up. feels almost a shock that this all was even real. sending tracks back and forth. laura recording taylor’s vocals in another room in CA - me patched in from NY. maybe it was conditions that we had to make it under but i’ve never heard taylor sing better in my life / write better. all of it. recorded these songs in just a few takes. most of them full takes and not comped. sending her tracks for august and mirrorball and hearing what she would send back are moments that are mind blowing to me thinking back to the first time we did this on out of the woods — the feeling is the same, heaven. 4 together at this point. jesus taylor. can’t believe i got to type that. love you thank you to the best living engineer , who has been inspiring me long before i’ve gotten to know him, for sax, flutes and clarinet. gorgeous. for pedal steel, harmonica and key work. again, gorgeous. and serban for the mixes. randy for perfect master. folklore forever ps august forever :) forever
